Repeat Prescription
Repeat Prescription is a political collection of art jewellery that explores relationships with and attitudes toward medicine. In the Western world, pharmaceuticals are deeply interwoven into our culture and lives from the moment we are born until we take our final breath. Misha McLean’s interest in the subject began at a young age when she was given an EpiPen after a severe allergic reaction. Amazed by this piece of life saving medical equipment, she became aware of the true power of modern medicine. While pharmaceuticals can greatly improve quality of life, they must be used with caution; misuse, addiction, and adverse side effects are just a few of the many dangers associated with prescription drugs. Using precious materials contrasted with fluorescent bursts reminiscent of ’90s rave posters, Misha fuses contemporary techniques such as CAD modelling and 3D printing with traditional silversmithing skills to create talismanic, thought- provoking wearable art.
